đŸ”„*1883* INCREDIBLE CASTING CHOICES & BREAKOUT STARS!đŸ”„

Isabel May

In my last blog, I spoke about how wonderful Fath Hill and Tim McGraw were in their lead roles as the Duttons in Taylor Sheridan's 1883. You can now stream the entire series on Paramount Plus +

I wanted to talk about Isabel May in a separate blog because she deserves it.

🐎GIDDY UP --- Let's go!🐎

From the very moment I laid eyes on Isabel in 1883, I knew she was something special. The camera loves her, I mean, the camera ADORES HER! She is so crazy beautiful on-screen, but don’t let her natural beauty fool you.

She is a tremendous Actor.

I mean, she is the complete package.

An outstanding Actor and a true natural on-screen beauty.

The one thing that strikes me about Isabel (Elsa Dutton) is she doesn’t know how beautiful she is, well it doesn’t come across that way on screen. There's no, "I know how beautiful I am." It doesn't affect her acting. Does that make sense?

For example, some really beautiful Actors in scenes can’t seem to get out of their own way. You can see it in their eyes. Ego.

They know they’re beautiful and for me, they can’t seem to lose themselves in the character. As an audience member, I can’t see past it because they can’t see past their beauty either. Ie. Angelina Jolie, I really don't find her that believable, ie. character believable in any of her roles.

Now, this goes for some male actors as well. i.e Brad Pitt, although in his older age, he’s tending to move past it. George Clooney. He’s great and enjoyable to watch, but you’re watching George if you know what I mean? I’ve never seen him in any role where I don’t see George = simply playing George. But hey, it works for him.

Isabel May on the other hand is stunningly beautiful, (no ego) and her acting is breathtaking. There are so many steel catching scenes she’s in that makes it hard to nail down.

But I'll try.

  1. When she has her first kiss with Ennis (Eric Nelsen) Episode 5 of "1883". She kisses him for the first time and then say's, -- do it again. It's adorable, you can literally eat her with a spoon in this scene. Go on watch it, I bet you can't help but smile.

2. In the seventh episode, Elsa meets Sam, a Comanche warrior. A really beautiful moment for me is, (blink and you’ll miss it) is when she’s riding on her horse and puts out her hand to quietly caress Sams' hand. So subtly done and so beautifully directed and shot. I mean it was such a great moment. It’s these little moments that truly show the depth of thought that goes into making such phenomenal television.

After researching who was the DOP and Director of a few episodes of 1883, I am once again delighted to see that, not only does Sheridan use the same actors, he’s bloody loyal to his crew as well. Ben Richardson is a cinematographer director and producer. Guess What? He’s worked with Taylor on, Yellowstone, Major of Kingstown and 1883.

3. When she is saying goodbye to her husband - Sam and screams out that she loves him. Goosebumps.

4. In the final scene, under the tree with her father, Tim McGraw.

Just watch it and you’ll understand. I read that Tim and Faith couldn't stop bawling when they watched this scene. I thought, OK what's all this about? Then I watched it.
Yup, I needed the tissues. I was bawling my eyes out.

So, this brings me to my next point about Taylor Sheridan's casting choices one more time.

As the story goes, Isabel May auditioned for another role in one of Sheridan's TV series, Mayor of Kingstown starring, Jeremy Renner. This was before 1883.

The role that Isabel went for was one of the lead characters called Iris - (Emma Laird).

If you've seen Mayor of Kingstown, you will be aware of the character Iris. I'm actually surprised that Isabel was put forward for the role of IRIS, but then again, the character of Iris is a very complex character that needs to come across as tough, worldly and street smart yet has a softness and innocence to her. I can see this in Isabel, however, I agree with Taylor who didn't think Isabel was right for the role. By the way, Emma Laird nailed the character of Iris and the casting once again was bang on point for Major of Kingstown.

Nevertheless, Isabel was the perfect person for 1883 and as the story goes, Taylor didn't know how to tie the whole 1883 series together, that was until Isabel May walked into the audition room for Iris in Mayor of Kingstown. He knew straight away that she was the glue, SHE WAS the missing link in the series.

If only I was her agent this girl is going to have a massive career, I mean a massive career and she deserves it. Taylor once again has proven what a master storyteller he is and how casting is the key to a show.

Side note; another breakout star to watch for Gratiela Brancusi a Romania actress who stars as Noemi in 1883. You’ll be seeing more of her in the coming years.
